Who can you make a little happier this week?
The Dalai Lama says, “So much of human suffering comes from people thinking too much about themselves.”
Your monkey mind is constantly thinking about the past and future. You and I have a negativity bias in our brains and we are constantly scanning for what might harm or hurt us.
In the spring of 2017, I hired my first life coach. The experience was transformational and inspired me to study to become a coach myself. At the time, I was struggling emotionally and psychologically with juggling being a Director of Sales & Marketing, parenting a toddler and baby, marriage, self-care, and keeping up with friendships and family. I remember how ecstatic I was when I got my first coaching client and began coaching them. I felt so much gratitude, joy, contentment, and warmth seeing that I was partnering with another person to help them feel happier.
The science of happiness proves that you will increase your well-being when you make other people happier. This can extend to helping animals and the earth. As a working mom, you probably feel “time-poor”. I do too a lot of time. The good news is, you can help people that you are with on a regular basis feel happier and make their life and your life better.
1 Simple Step to Make People in Your Life Happier
Make a list of the people that you spend the most time with. This includes your spouse/partner, children, friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors.
Journal or think about what you could do to make each person a little happier. Some ideas include kind texts, notes, videos, or voice messages, helping them with chores or other tasks, giving them specific positive appreciation, acknowledging their accomplishments and strengths, and supporting them to move towards their goals.
I know that my life is significantly better when I consciously focus on making my husband happier. What you focus on grows.
So, who are you going to make happier this week? ;-)
You are enough.
Your kids love you so much.
Choose to feel good.
