Are you afraid of failure?
You wake up everyday determined to give your best - to your family, work, and to yourselves.
You are strong. You juggle responsibilities that would overwhelm most people. The fact that you care so much means you are already succeeding.
But, even strong, capable women fear not being good enough.
This feeling can be persistent and isolating. It is not just about failing at work or at home, it is also the fear of letting youself down.
In your daily life, this looks like:
Feeling guilty for missing school activities or work meetings.
Overcompensating - staying late at work, overcommitting at home
Constantly comparing yourselves to other working moms and colleagues
Chronic stress
Difficulty enjoying successes or dismissing achievements
In 2021, our daughter was diagnosed with a rare profile of autism and she was really struggling with all of the demands of public school. I was growing my keynote speaking business, launching my book, and investing in professional development. We also have another daughter and parenting, work, and life felt completely out of control. Fear of failing was there every single minute. You are not alone.
So, what can you do?
1. Recognize and be mindful of the feeling and thoughts around your fears. Journal and talk about them.
2. Learn to say no without guilt.
3. Set realistic standards for success at home and at work
4. Talk openly to your support network - spouse, friends, family, your therapist
5. Acknowledge every step you take. Small progress is still progress
The fear of failing reflects how much you care and it tells you what matters to you and where your values lie.
Take a deep breath, smile, and celebrate the amazing job you are doing.
